With the rapid development of smart buildings and smart homes, lighting control systems face challenges such as low efficiency, inconvenient control and inadequate security. Traditional relays often suffer from high power consumption and susceptibility to power cuts, resulting in complex management of lighting equipment and a high risk of failure. Consequently, ONESTO has launched the BSR16 electronic bistable pulse relay, specifically designed to meet the demands of multi-point control.
What is Bistable Pulse Relay?
A bistable pulse relay is a type of relay that uses short pulse signals to control the on/off state of a circuit, allowing lights or other devices to be controlled from different locations via multiple push-button switches.
How It Works:
When any button connected to the relay is pressed (i.e. a pulse signal is received), the relay’s state changes (for example, from off to on). Pressing any switch again causes the relay’s state to change once more (from on to off).
The BSR16 supports the control of lighting or other loads via multiple buttons connected in parallel, allowing users to switch them on and off from different locations for maximum convenience. Its unique non-latching contact design ensures that the circuit automatically turns off when power is restored after an outage, preventing unintended activation of the equipment. With a rated current capacity of up to 16A, it supports a wide range of load types, including incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, energy-saving lamps, and LEDs, meeting the needs of diverse application scenarios.
• Powerful multi-button parallel control: Supports the parallel connection of multiple push-button switches, enabling flexible control of a single load from multiple locations and enhancing user convenience
• Power-off reset: Prevents accidental automatic activation; after power is restored, the device automatically resets to the "Off" state, eliminating the safety hazard of the load accidentally turning on following a power outage
• Low power consumption: Standby power consumption is only 0.3W, and operating power consumption is 0.8W, reducing operating costs and heat generation, making it suitable for applications with high energy-saving requirements.
• Wide voltage range and compatibility with various load types: Supports 110V–230V AC and can drive a wide range of loads, including incandescent lamps, halogen lamps, fluorescent lamps, energy-saving lamps, and LEDs, offering broad application possibilities.
• Complies with international safety standards: Meets the IEC/EN 60947-5-1 standard, with an insulation voltage of 250 VAC and a surge withstand voltage of 2 kV, making it suitable for various operating environments and offering superior safety performance
Applications:
The BSR16 is ideally suited for lighting control needs in residential buildings, office towers, commercial spaces, and factory workshops. It is particularly well-suited for scenarios requiring centralized control of multiple points, such as stairwells, hallways, and conference rooms. It is compatible with push-button switches featuring indicator lights, making operation more intuitive and convenient for users.
Multi-Point Lighting Control in Hotel Stairwells
Problem: Stairwells typically span multiple floors, each requiring a switch to control the lighting. Using traditional mechanical switches results in complex wiring and is prone to accidental operation or difficulties in centralized lighting management.
Solution: Utilize the BSR16’s multi-button parallel input feature to connect the buttons on each floor in parallel to a relay. This eliminates the need for complex multi-wire wiring, allowing the lighting status to be toggled by pressing a button on any floor. Additionally, the relay’s power-off reset feature prevents abnormal lighting activation after a power outage, thereby enhancing safety.
Centralized Lighting Control for Multiple Entrances in Large Retail Stores
Problem: Large retail stores have multiple entrances and aisles, requiring centralized control of the entire store’s lighting. Traditional systems use multiple switches to control different areas, resulting in complex wiring and difficult maintenance, and often leading to inconsistent lighting or confusion regarding which switch controls which area.
Solution: By utilizing the BSR16 pulse relay, buttons at multiple entrances and key aisles are connected in parallel to the relay, enabling centralized on/off control of the store’s lighting. The relay supports a wide voltage range of 110–230 VAC, making it suitable for the power supply environment in retail stores; its power-off reset function ensures that lights remain off after a power outage, preventing waste and safety hazards. Its low-power, stable operation reduces operational costs.
Smart Lighting Retrofit for Homes
Problem: Older homes often have complex existing switch wiring, which limits wiring options during a smart lighting retrofit, especially when working within a tight budget.
Solution: Install the BSR16 pulse relay inside the electrical panel and utilize the existing button wiring to enable multi-point lighting control, thereby avoiding the need for rewiring. The relay is compatible with buttons featuring indicator lights, allowing users to maintain their existing habits while enjoying smart control. Its low power consumption helps reduce energy waste.
Emergency Lighting Control in Public Spaces
Problem: Public spaces such as shopping malls and hospitals require emergency lighting. In the event of a power outage, non-essential lights must be quickly turned off to prevent wasted energy.
Solution: Utilize the power-off reset function of the BSR16. When power is restored, the relay automatically resets to the “OFF” position, preventing emergency lights or regular lighting from accidentally turning on. This enhances safety management and improves energy efficiency.
