Working Principle

 

The RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent protection) is a comprehensive electrical protection device that combines the functions of a Residual Current Protector (RCD) and a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) in one unit. Its operating principle is based on the following key points:

 

Residual current protection (RCD) function: the RCBO protects electrical equipment and users by detecting the residual current in the circuit. Normally, the current in a circuit should be balanced between the line and the zero line. In case of leakage (e.g. current leakage due to equipment insulation breakage or human contact), the RCBO will detect the unbalanced current in the line and quickly cut off the power supply to avoid electric shock.

 

Overload protection (MCB) function: In addition, the RCBO has the overload protection function of a miniature circuit breaker. When there is an overload (current exceeding the safe range) or short circuit (direct connection in the circuit) in the circuit, RCBO will automatically disconnect the circuit to prevent wires and equipment from being damaged.

The main parameters of the RCBO include:

 

Rated Current: Indicates the maximum current that the RCBO can safely carry. Common rated currents are 6A-40A. It is very important to choose the right rated current according to the load condition of the circuit.

 

Rated Residual Operating Current (RCBO): The residual current threshold for the RCBO to trigger an action. It is generally 10mA / 30mA, which means that when the residual current in the circuit exceeds 10mA / 30mA, the RCBO will automatically cut off the power supply.

 

Rated Tripping Current: Current threshold for overload protection. Different RCBOs may have adjustable overload protection current settings to suit different circuit requirements.
